How to Hire Staff in Hotel Tycoon 2
Janitors, Bellhops, and the level 5 upgrades that unlock Top staff badges.
Staff are how Hotel Tycoon 2 stops being a clicker. A Janitor remakes rooms. A Bellhop walks guests so you can live in build mode. This page is the hire order, the upgrade chase, and the mistakes that burn checkout cash. Rankings live on the staff tier list. Role lore lives on staff roles. The Bellhop badge has its own page: Bellhop.
When you are allowed to hire
Do not open the staff panel in the first five minutes. You need:
- At least two beds that guests can path to
- A washer you have personally used once
- A lobby that is not blocked by a half-sold wall
If those are missing, staff wander into junk geometry. Finish Getting Started first.
Hire order
Janitor first if dirty rooms are why you miss the door. The BETA wants linens washed; a Bellhop who delivers a guest into a filthy bed helps nobody.
Bellhop first if the beds are clean and you are the bottleneck at reception. Creators in public sessions hire a Janitor, extend a corridor, then buy the Bellhop so “the whole hotel system is automated” enough to decorate.
Both are S-tier. The only wrong first hire is a duplicate of the same role while the other role is empty.
Level 5 and badges
Roblox lists:
- Top Bellhop — upgrade a Bellhop to level 5 (thousands of awards).
- Top Janitor — named for the Janitor; the API text currently repeats the Bellhop sentence, which is a BETA copy-paste. Upgrade the Janitor to level 5 anyway (similar award count).
Start XP early. Waiting until you have a seven-floor tower makes the grind feel longer because you will be distracted by elevators. Spend spare cash on upgrades after beds and washers, not after yacht art. See how to make money for the spend table.
What staff do not do
- They do not place furniture. You still click build mode.
- They do not redeem codes.
- They do not raise stars by themselves. Dirty rooms still drop rating — star checklist.
- They do not replace a path. If the elevator keypad is the only way upstairs and the cab is broken, staff stall with you.
Auto-collect style passes and autofarm loaders overlap some of this work. Using both a Bellhop and a script is redundant and looks noisy on a 6-player plot. Pick one automation layer if friends are also clicking. Multiplayer.
Wages versus extra rooms
If cash is tight, a third bed beats a second Janitor. Throughput is stays per hour. Two cleaners on four beds is luxury. Four beds with one cleaner is a business. Revisit extra staff after 3-star.
On a shared plot, agree who pays wages from the shared cash pool. Random friends hiring duplicates is how treasuries die.
Controls and UI notes
The staff panel sits with the other hotel menus (not the Roblox escape menu). Hire, then find the upgrade control on that employee. If the BETA moves the button after a patch, check patch notes. Do not confuse this panel with the Players list used to see the six humans on the server.
Mobile: close the build catalog ([E] equivalent on-screen) before you hunt the hire button. Catalog overlay eats taps.
After they are working
You should be in the catalog, not the lobby. Expand with how to expand. Chase badges that are not staff-related (stars, streak) while XP ticks. If a staff member idles, the room they want is unreachable — fix the grid, do not fire them on impulse.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Hotel Tycoon 2 on Roblox.
Who should I hire first in Hotel Tycoon 2?
Janitor if laundry is behind, Bellhop if reception is behind. Never hire duplicates before both roles exist.
How do I get the Top Bellhop badge?
Upgrade a Bellhop to level 5. Start the XP while you still have a small hotel. Details on the Bellhop page.
Do I need staff to make money?
No. You can click the whole loop. Staff raise stays per hour so you can build. Beds and washers still come first.
Can friends be hired as staff?
Friends are extra humans on a 6-player server, not NPC employees. They do not give Top Bellhop credit. See multiplayer.
